Re: February Challenge: Portrait

Congrats to the winners and thanks to everybody else, there were some great photos there and I didn't have enough likes to go round!

Your selfie reminded me very much of Jane Bown's classic...

Re: Who Pulled the Plug?

Thanks Barr1e. Having spent many hours applying my backside to the things and only seeing the bits that stick up out of the water, that's really interesting.

Re: If you go down to the woods today....

Nice shots. You couldn't do that round here though.....

The dust has mostly died down following "the unpleasantness" in Salisbury last year with the Novichok poisonings. However, it has recently...

Re: Sapper

Another plus vote for sapper/Dave from me. I bought a tripod head and it was a very good transaction - good communication, very quick delivery, well packaged, and head was just as described.

I...

More old photos

Following on from Wally's thread about the new year's day photos, here is another BBC page I found interesting:

It talks about...

Re: Photoshop Ai enhanced RAW

If there is a difference, it looks very marginal to me and I wouldn't like to choose which one was "better". I had a little play with it on files from various cameras and didn't notice any worthwhile...

Re: Night Views from Olympus Sydney balcony

I'm with Aussie Mark on this - the first shot works really well. It's not just a night shot, the composition fits together nicely and it has a great atmosphere.

Correcting perspective

Prompted by Paul's (pdk42) series of photos of the Flatiron Building (thread here: http://e-group.uk.net/forum/showthread.php?t=49588) and the discussion about comparison of the human eye to a camera...

Re: E-M1X preview sessions

I had a surprise opportunity for a fondle this aftie - Oly man Chris Booth turned up with one at LCE in Salisbury for a couple of hours so I dashed down to see it.

I'm very glad I did. It pretty...

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

I have started a new thread in this same m43 sub-forum (as Ian hasn't set one up for the E-M1X yet) so that anyone who goes and gets their grubby mitts on one at a demo session can give feedback on...

Re: The inner sanctum

Apart from the little bit of sky it is virtually monochrome! But I like the way the blue of the sky complements the yellowy shades of the structure, and we would lose that if it were converted.

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

I'm a bit conflicted about it and am looking forward to seeing what it will really deliver. Even with the E-M1 Mk II and f/2.8 lenses I still get problems in low light with sport at this time of...

Re: Anyone print A3 ?

I ave no experience of Permajet profiling, but the Fotospeed system is pretty simple and I imagine Perjet's will be similar. You download a package from their website which contains a standard chart...

Re: Weirdest SALE

Well done!

I think I tried Silverfast when I first got the V750, and didn't like it. Probably more down to the interface than anything functional, but I find that the standard Epson Scan utility...

Re: Weirdest SALE

Just out of curiosity I did a trawl for used Coolscan V and found some on eBay for around 500 - which is about what I paid for mine new 20+ years ago.

I've just done some Googling for getting...

Re: Weirdest SALE

We're drifting a bit off-topic here, but....

I have a Nikon Coolscan V (aka LS-50) which I believe uses the same driver as the LS-9000. I have it working quite happily on Windows 10 64-bit, and...

Re: Nesting

Wrong way round, Mark.

EC-14 and EC-20 are for "big 4/3" lenses - in your link it gives as an exmaple the 300mm f/2.8 which is only available in 4/3, not Micro 4/3.

The MC-14 is the currently...

I would think that if you already have one of those magical little Rolleis Steve then the 35RC/D wouldn't offer too much extra. Apart from being nice to have, of course :)

And I've just noticed...

Re: Olympus 35RC

It was the first camera that I bought for myself (for about 50 quid in 1874 if memory serves) and I still think it is lovely. I don't recall having had problems with focus or the rangefinder, and I...

Re: Its Coming

Gosh, that awakened a distant memory. But until I read the Wiki entry I hadn't realised how distant - the film was made in 1976 and i think the original case was in 1974:
