I wouldn't recommend it as a first macro lens, as it has a limited magnification range, too high for most subjects. However, if you want a FOV (m4/3) of 3.5 to 7mm, the depth in images is unmatched....

Thanks. I use a pub bench type table and can arrange my lighting and rest hands or elbows for most shots. For field shots it's a bit more doing the best I can, with knees, elbows etc. often in cold...

Handling the specimens is the biggest problem. Slicing off a sliver of bark means either:

a) It rolls up like a carpet and/or

b) It drops to the ground before you have firm grip...
