Re: Fiction becomes reality!

Correct me if I am wrong, but America is not the only country in the world where gun ownership is almost universal. (Israel and Switzerland come to mind.)

However, America seems to be the only...

Re: Pictures: Do you have one that got away?

A couple of years ago we had a heavy rain shower, the sky was black, and a spectacular rainbow formed over the village.

I grabbed my camera, and my coat, ran out of the back door across the field...

Re: If you thought money could buy influence ..... (Politics USA)

For the benefit of those of us 3,500 miles away please can you explain the appeal of Trump to so many people in the USA (and now it seems, Canada)?

Re: Political: We're doomed, Captain Mannering...

This is concerns me a lot; and it isn't necessarily about laziness.

As a micro sized business I trade all around the world, but it is so much easier trading within the EU for now than outside....

Re: Political: We're doomed, Captain Mannering...

But do we have sufficient reliable information to vote whether to keep this thread open?

And if we make the wrong decision can we vote again? :D

Re: Political: We're doomed, Captain Mannering...

Equally, the same argument could be used by the Brexiteers.

One thing is sure; leaving won't be made any easier if we ask for a stay of execution.

Re: If you thought money could buy influence ..... (Politics USA)

Trump isn't too dumb to work the system and make $ billions though!

He became bankrupt at one point I remember, but came back again.

It seems he knows exactly what he wants to do and won't be...

If you thought money could buy influence ..... (Politics USA)

It seems that between them Google, Facebook, Amazon and Apple wasted $50 USD million lobbying the Trump administration in 2017.

Google, Facebook, Amazon and Apple wasted $50 million lobbying the...

Re: Political: We're doomed, Captain Mannering...

Evidence given in Court is delivered in a very different way to an election or referendum.

All witnesses are required to swear an oath before giving evidence;

Witnesses are routinely...

Re: Political: We're doomed, Captain Mannering...

Not when the referendum vote was based on flawed evidence.

Had the referendum been a criminal trial in a court of law the judgement would almost certainly be challenged on the basis that the...

Re: Political: We're doomed, Captain Mannering...

That is undoubtedly true, especially when those who consider themselves 'liberals' lose the vote; which is ironic really. We have seen much the same played out in the USA since Trump became POTUS.

Re: Political: We're doomed, Captain Mannering...

The GBP today has nowhere near the value against the $ USD that it had in June 2016. Some would argue that that is a good thing, but it depends whether you are importing or exporting. I export more...

Re: Monthly Photo Challenge - Forthcoming Themes

I think we have all become so afraid of the PC brigade we dare not even discuss it!

Reminds me of the scene in Only Fools and Horses where Rodney drank Steradent with Uncle Albert's teeth in it.

Did your customer use the false teeth to decorate the...

North of the border they pour the tea into the cup first, and then add the milk!

Scots staff on the ECML do the same. In my view they should be taken off at Newcastle. :D

Re: Political: We're doomed, Captain Mannering...

I don't know where these figures come from, (I have not seen them when completing my own Self Assessment), but I would imagine the 0.7% figure refers to the percentage of total tax take, so it could...

Re: Location lists

Likewise.

I often visit places and think that I should return at a different time of the day or year (spring/autumn or when light is better), and make a mental note to do so when the opportunity...

Re: Sky email issue

I believe some ISP's do prioritise (and throttle) certain internet traffic depending on who owns the servers and what their relationship is. This tends to be more of a problem for streaming services...

Much the same happens with calendar...
