Re: Windows Hell

There's one consolation chaps - if the Yanks corrupt their floppies, The Donald won't be able to launch his nukes will he? :D  (Always assuming he gets himself elected....)

Re: Windows Hell

I've been a Windows user since 1988, when it was adopted at work. Out of all that time, I reckon it has been relatively problem-free for no more than 2 or 3 years, principally during the later XP...

Re: Windows Hell

I tried my external HDD for the PC with my Mac, and found that it will happily read and copy the files, but won't write to it. Which is fine: I can copy off my photo files and then save them to the...

Re: Windows Hell

But I'm not bothered about doing that, once the Mac is doing what I want! At the moment, I download to both machines straight off the memory card, if I feel a need to.

Re: Windows Hell

Love it, Wally!

You missed a bit out, though. Brother William's drum sticks never worked properly, so users had to attack them with all sorts of tools to try to get them to transmit the messages...

Re: Windows Hell

I only use the external drive for archiving and back-up. The Mac will read JPGs etc brought on a memory stick, and that is fine for what I do. I shan't get rid of the PC for some time because it...

Re: Windows Hell

On the PC I was just looking for a photo editor, and PSP filled the bill very well - except that the clone brush didn't work properly after the second update; but on teh Mac I shall probably use the...

Re: Windows Hell

Why would I want to, Jim? :) I have a 1TB second HDD on my PC for all my data (all the software being on the 250GB C drive.) I can do almost all of my U3A stuff on the Mac now, and my photo...

Re: Windows Hell

Blimey, Wally, someone who actually understands Windows 8 ?? :D:D

I'm steadily migrating my activities over to the Mac laptop that I bought. And the more I find out about it, the happier I'm...

Re: Windows Hell

That doesn't make sense, Jim, because to establish communication with the Internet, the computer has to send coherent packets, and, normally, a password; it isn't a random connection made by hardware...

Re: Windows Hell

Norton is in the Start menu, so starts at start-up of the machine. Most 3rd party firewalls are more secure than Windows firewall. So far I am aware.

Re: Windows Hell

I understand form our local computer shop that from Win 8 on, as soon as you have a MS account, if they see something that they don't like, MS can disable your operating system! Big Brother is alive...

Re: Windows Hell

I had the same thing with my old desktop PC, an Acer, whilst the refurb HP that I replaced it with doesn't (yet) have the same problem - and it's the same age!

Re: Windows Hell

Here's a question for you all! Does the OS in the Macbook feed private info back to Apple, like Win 8, 8.1, and 10?

Re: Windows Hell

I wonder if that's the actual issue with third party AV/Internet security packages? I use Norton IS, so Windows firewall is disabled; that just might stop some of the private info being sent back to...

Re: Windows Hell

That's going to be a common problem, then! I think my HP would have that problem. It was originally a business machine, running XP. My licence is for XP. I bought my HP as a refurb, with Win7 Pro...

Re: Windows Hell

I am told that you cannot stop Win10 updates - it forces you to have them. No options! The biggest problem that I have found with Windows is updates. Every new version is fine, until the updates...
