Its an adaptor that takes a 3.5mm jack /mic. A mic is supplied but is detachable.
So if anyone knows of a connector that will fit the socket above the EV please let me know as that clearly has mic...

Well you have to try it .but my solution is to buy a cheap lens hood on e bay and cut off the top petal. (D800 with 17mm lens)
You can rotate it to get a petal at the top or not as you require but...
