Punch Drunk - Help...

...please.

Anne and I are going to push the purchase button on a new lens.

We have the 14-42, 40-150, 70-300 and EC-14 and currently both use E-510s.

Portraits are not a priority.

We enjoy animals and landscapes.

We are torn between the 12-60 and 11-22.

What do you suggest please.

Regards. Barr1e

I would go for the 12-60mm (in fact I did) Yes I know its a lot of money, but its a great lens.

My choice would be the 12-60mm. As John says, it's expensive but a brilliant lens.

As John says go with the 12-60,almost as wide(as the 11-22) but much better alround plus SWD for when you get that E3.
Coupled with the EC14 you get a very good quality 83 mm lens at the long end and almost a macro at the short.

Barr1e,

If you do get the 12-60 you will probably find that you also stop using the 40-150mm along with the 14-42mm. The 12-60 and the 70-300 give you getter coverage. The downsize is the weight.

12-60mm all the way, it's just so versatile. Use the EC-14 with it and you need not carry anything else for 90% of shooting.

What a nice dilemma to have, Barrie. Have fun agonising over this one!

I'm going to make it even worse by suggesting the 12-60mm, then saving really hard for the 7-14mm, but of course, you wouldn't really want one of those, would you?;)

John :D

Worth reading Wrotniak's review of the 11-22

and 12-60

Can I be a pain? I know its not the question you asked but...

Thought about the Sigma 10 - 20? Its canny cheap at around £300, I love it :D

Then maybe think about the 14 - 54?

or the 18-50/2.8 macro..one fantastic cheap lens..but not weather sealed as those Zuikos.

My choice would be towards the cheaper sigmas. I think you only have 1 size of filters to think about 72mm as compared to the Zuikos.

Re: Punch Drunk - Help...

That makes it quite conclusive - especially after reading Wrotniak (thanks Invicta). We had thought of other brands but being Olympus fans we obviously chose the brand not only for the quality. Also as it is dust and splash proof.

Our thanks to J Baker, angelpaaul, andym, Chillimonster, Zuiko, Invicta, Garrie and blu-by-u.

We have done our research as to prices of the 12-60 but do you know who the cheapest is and are they good to deal with?

Well I'd look at Kerso http://stores.ebay.co.uk/FLASH-CAMERA, not used him myself but lots here have. About 100 cheaper than the online stores (+ maybe a group discount if outside paypal).

I really wish Invicta hadn't posted that review - looks like it may cost me some money.

I'd second that. I've used Kerso before. Sound guy, great prices, hassle free. I will be buying all my gear from him in the future.
