Olympus 70-300 f4-5.6 lens coupled to an E-1

Hi All,

Like a few others in the forum I have been attracted by the rather good prices being offered for the 70-300 f4-5.6 lens.
Anyone managed good shots with the E-1 and have examples and any tips for its use in getting pin sharp images.

Regards

Gavin

This is a good question. Unfortunately, I don't have a 70-300 to hand at the moment to try on the E-1. At 300 the lack of image stabilisation might be telling, but in good light I would expect very good results.

Bit of a bump

I can't believe that nobody has experience of using the 70-300mm with an E-1 good or bad.

Gavin

I use the 70-300mm, and find that in good light it is a superb lens. At full extension it takes some holding steady, and if used, as I do, for semi-macro work, a tripod is best. For moving objects the focus lock when fitted to the E-1 can be frustrating, it does not lock on quickly, and hunts constantly, especially against sky.
This is not an expensive lens, as lenses go, but is great value for money, and can be super sharp. These are crops.

I tend to use a tripod for these type of shots, and also the Shutter delay set to 10secs. Rules out my shaky hands.

[QUOTE=j.baker;78580]Here are two images taken with an E1 and a 70-300.

Nice shots. I have the sharpness turned right up on my E-1 with this lens.

Re: Olympus 70-300 f4-5.6 lens coupled to an E-1

I got the E1 for several reasons....one it was cheap and two...its weather sealed. The big problem is no IS. I had to up the ISO and use a lower F.stop.

I normally use a monopod when out and about, but I did not have it with me this morining. I have only had the E1 since Saturday afternoon. I still think the E30 is better :)

I shoot in RAW, and then process the image with Elements 8 and Topaz plug-ins.

I have not seen your post....yet.

I was posting images because a user asked about the camera and lens combination.
