Idea for a comp.
Dont all pounce on me at once if im trying to re invent the wheel. I have been thinking of a new challenge. Hows about an editing challenge?
Basically 1 unedited RAW file (different subject each time) is posted and people have a set amount of time to produce their own edit of the RAW file. The edits are posted on here and winner is selected. The winner then posts the next RAW file for the followings months comp. I had the idea as I'm trying to improve using lightroom and think it would be ideal not only as a comp but from a learning prospective. Interested to hear peoples views. |
Re: Idea for a comp.
Why not? It would be great to learn from the experts.:D

Re: Idea for a comp.
Excellent Idea! I have run this type of contest at a camera club and it is very popular. Often new ways of editing and new ways of looking at an image provide inspiration for others along with tips and tricks from a range of different people.

Re: Idea for a comp.
Sounds good if the RAW can be made available, or maybe a hi res jpg.

Re: Idea for a comp.
Sounds good to me. :tup
I must admit to having a vested interest in such a project as in the very near future I'm hoping to have some fairly ancient - 40 / 50 years old - colour slides to sort out. As such, any advice technique others are willing to share would be an early Xmas pressie. Here's hoping http://www.animatedimages.org/data/m...image-0410.gifstops by. PS: The usual wee dram and mince pies will be available. ;) I'm sure it would assist the many who are already adept as well as the newcomers to photography as a lead in to 'tickling the ivories' so to speak Perhaps naming the proggie used with a short 'how to list' would help give a better insight to what actually took place? |
Re: Idea for a comp.
I have asked Ian to look into setting up a hosting "folder" for the RAW or large jpgs originals. The final edited versions would have to be posted to the forum within the limits of the sites uploads or posted via direct links to a hosting site.
Some form of "judging" will need to be agreed on. |
Re: Idea for a comp.
Nothing stopping the original RAW being deleted from the sever once the comp has ended. sounds promising so far :-)

Sounds a good idea plus it could encourage others to push the envelope and inspire members.

Re: Idea for a comp.
A long time ago I posted a before and after of a "miss taken" image from a C8080WZ that I took as a grab shot having forgot that I left the camera in manual.
http://e-group.uk.net/gallery/data/5...n_Original.jpg I didn't have Photoshop back in those days, so did it all in Picassa and ended up with this: http://e-group.uk.net/gallery/data/500/TRAIN_Final.jpg One thing I do recall is that the gradient tool in Picassa only worked top down. I had to rotate the image 180 deg., save it, then open it again and flip it back the right way up to do the rest of what I did... I'm sure that there could be a lot of tips and tricks, as well as inspiration for many as we get to see how a number of people approach the same original in different ways. Any ideas to get this up and running ? |
Re: Idea for a comp.
The main thing is that we need somewhere for the original raw file to go. They can be big so-and-so's!

Re: Idea for a comp.
The RAW could just be made available in a DropBox link, or other cloud system.
Forum then does not have to bother with the original large RAW.............*chr |
Re: Idea for a comp.
Can you forsee any issues with ownership of the photo? Tacit agreement that any processed photo won't go further than this forum? Also acknowledgement that if a RAW is entered, then no complaints if it is hijacked?? But don't want to strangle it before its born...........*chr
