We lost a member of our "Family" today

Today, I had the unfortunate responsibility to make an awful, but correct decision. :(

One of our three cats had to be put to sleep. She was 13 and a half years old, and developed bone cancer earlier on this year.

Until the very end, she was fully active and not in any pain, but in the last few days she suddenly had difficulty breathing and was not active.

We, the Wife and I, will miss her. We have two other cats to care for, both of whom are in good health, so life carries on.

She was sometimes annoying, attention seeking and wet (she liked the rain :eek: ), but that was just part of her personality.

I have taken some great pictures of her over the years.

There are some of them.

Pets are part of the family.

When burying her, in the garden, I almost accidentally left part of her tail showing. I had to reposition her and recover. It was resting against the side of the grave/hole and I did not see it.

It made me smile on what was otherwise a bad morning. :o:D

We've lost a couple of dogs in similar circumstances and I have the deepest sympathy.

Sorry to hear it john - absent friends are always a loss whatever their species.

My "dark side" wonders whether you thought to take a picture

I did think about it, but I feared the my wife would perform some ad hoc surgery on me.

Sad to hear about this, John. We have two cats (from the same litter, though one is black and the other a tortoiseshell). Next year they will be 15. So far they are going strong and fairly active. The black one has an especially lovely demeanour and I will be very sorry to see her go.

Sorry to hear your news John :(.

It's horrible when this sort of thing happens (I know, we've had a few pets in our time). Our last cat lived to the ripe old age of 19 - we were all inconsolable and resolved never to have another cat ever again, but a few months on we got another one :o.

You've got some gorgeous photos of your cat, so you've got some lovely memories.

I have some of the older books that were given to me some time ago.

They are very funny.

Thanks to all for all of the comments.

Did you show the dead cat to the surviving cats so that they can understand what has happened to their old mate. Otherwise they might search for it.

And yes I am being serious.
