A Very Poor Show!

At a whole bunch of 11s on 11 November 1918, the fighting part of World War I came to an end. The Treaty of Versailles was signed the following year.

The Brisbane City Council has known for 100 years that the Remembrance Day commemorations of 11 November 2018 would be significant.

This past weekend, it was announced that the "Restoration and Enhancement Project" in ANZAC Square in Brisbane wouldn't be completed by 11 November 2018, but would probably be completed in early 2019.

This morning, on my way to work, I took some photos of the current state of the project:

They had 100 years to plan this project and they still couldn't get it right. :(

Clearly an impressive project, Larry. Your take on it makes for some interesting viewing. Superbly crisp.

Larry,

Great documentary photos. Just a suggestion, send them to ABC news, along with your comment, about the 100 Years.

I am sure it will look great once finished. I see a surveyor using a Leica total station. Might be the reason for being late...……….:)

Nice photos, we have waited a hundred years for this, another year ain't gonna be too long to wait...….

Definitely news worthy, you should send it in as David said. It's a good job the guys on the front line weren't late!

ANZAC Square is where the Remembrance Day service to commemorate 100 years since the end of WWI will be held in Brisbane on 11 November 2018. It was in fairly decent condition before the refurbishment work started. In my opinion, if there was even the slightest chance that the refurbishment work wouldn't be finished by 11 November 2018, they shouldn't have started the work until after 11 November 2018.

As it is, the ceremony to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of WWI will be held overlooking a construction site. I am seriously considering driving up to Toowoomba to attend the Remembrance Day ceremony at the Mothers' Memorial (http://monumentaustralia.org.au/them...thers-memorial).

A year ago, before the work started:

Ooohh I thought that wall with the small bandstand thingy was part of the new build on the first set.

Must admit, it looks really nice as it was. Hope the changes are for the better not just spending of public money for change that isn't needed.

That last shot looks alright to me. Why exactly are they messing about with it?

It will probably be ready for centenary of the peace treaty which was in 1919 at the Treaty of Versailles signed on the 28th June 1919 - which was really firing the starting gun for WWII.

So as long as the rework can be completed by June next year they will be on time.

I am thinking that it will have to be ready for ANZAC Day 2019, which is 25 April. In Australia and New Zealand ANZAC Day holds greater prominence than Remembrance Day and is a public holiday.
