Four Thirds User (Fourthirds-user.com (http://fourthirds-user.com)) is a sibling site to the e-group.

In response to a request I have produced a set of 56 original sample images (JPEG and RAW) to compare the image quality of the new M.Zuiko Micro Four Thirds 9-18mm super wide zoom with the original Four Thirds 9-18 as well as the 14-42 kit lens and 17mm pancake.

Thanks for these images, Ian. It seems, without detailed study, that the mZ 9-18 is a little more contrasty than the ZD 9-18. To my eyes this is more pleasing, but that's the kind of result I like.

A few days ago I yielded to temptation and bought one of these lenses for my E-P2, having also previously used my ZD 9-18 on this camera. I am pleased to say that your results are very similar to my deductions. The m4/3 lens seems more tailored to the processing engine in the Pen than the ZD version. And it is certainly nicer to use.

I was just saying that on FTU, where the samples are located, there has been little discussion about the lens or the samples!

Anyway, I have today received the new 14-150 and will be posting samples again on FTU asap.

I am surprised. I've now been using this lens for a while, and it's now a firm favourite. I find it renders better results than its grown-up brother on the same camera. And it feels really well made - a joy to use.

Look forward to seeing the 14-150, though it's not on my radar for buying. But if it's really compact and good IQ, then who knows....
