I was just thinking along similar lines. Hope it does not turn out a damp squib though.

I think the cloud can be made out on the visible satellite pictures on the met office site.
http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/satpics/latest_uk_vis.html
There seems to be a 'fuzzing' of the cloud over the Faeroes and Shetland and it is bending Southeastward.
This ties in with a different frequency satellite photograph.

From this I would reckon sunset/sunrise possibilities; Scotland North of Drumochter this evening, North of England from tomorrow morning and the rest tomorrow evening or I could as usual be talking rubbish.
2 consolations, no contrails spoiling the sky and no politicians flying to Scotland to say nothing.:D

The sunset looked pretty good here - shame I missed it by about 5 minutes. This is from about 10-15mins after sunset.

Like it, best of the bunch for me:) Quite often it's the way that the best colours and hues appear after the sun has set.

Some lovely pics, particularly love the one across the Forth by snag2000. The colours and exposure are fantastic.*yes

Took this one last night across the Solway Firth, although I can't say whether there were any noticeable volcanic effects.

I went to Aberlady Bay on Friday evening to try some more. All I got was sand in every pocket and crevice of clothing and two ticks. Can't win all the time...

Snag2000,
The forth bridge shot is superb - did you take it from the harbour wall at South Queensferry?
Flying Haggis,
I'm a bit slow on the uptake - just got the joke he he

Cheers - it's from the slipway behind the lifeboat shed. Easier to get to than traipsing through the dunes in the dark :)
