View Full Version : Viewfinder cover

Excuse me if I'm showing my ignorance here.

When I got my new 620 I dutifully followed the instructions and and fitted the viewfinder cover onto the strap.

I have only just started using Liveview for which I believe this is required.

However when used (with it on the strap) the strap gets in the way.

1. Do I need to use it (always)?

If so:

2. Should I take it off the strap; or
3. Should I/can I get a spare one to keep loose?

4. Have I completely misunderstood?

Thanks in advance

If you mean the little black plastic cover put it at the bottom of a drawer at home in case you ever sell the camera and the person you sell to wants one.

I understand that they are for long exposure shots when you have the camera open for ages, but in 30 years of picture taking I've never had to make use of one

I've never used mine for anything else but a storage for the hotshoe cover.

In any case I don't think you need it for live view. It's only to stop light entering through the viewfinder when the eye is away from the finder, eg on a tripod, and confusing the meter. If you're in live view, because the mirror is up, there shouldn't be a problem. I've never used it anyway and had no ill effects - my photos are still c*$p!
