I was sent this email, but didn't had time to share it before now and, unfortunately won't be able to go but I thought there might still be some time for the Hants area people.

It's tomorrow, 23rd January

Nelson's Trail
Hampshire County Council is launching ĎNelsonís Trailí on Friday 22nd January at Bucklerís Hard in Beaulieu as part of the culture-all campaign.

The culture-all campaign, which highlights different activities each month, is focusing on ĎDefence of the Realmí throughout January, promoting the many castles, museums, historic ships and stately homes in and around Hampshire that have had a defining role in shaping the history of Great Britain.

Nelsonís Trail follows some of the countyís most famous landmarks linked to Britainís greatest naval hero, Lord Nelson. Hampshire County Councilís Executive Member for Culture and Recreation, Councillor Margaret Snaith-Tempia, said: ďBy launching Nelsonís Trail, we hope to encourage families to get out and explore some of the fantastic visitor attractions in Hampshire that are associated with the life of Nelson. These include the Historic Dockyard in Portsmouth, home to the worldís most famous ship, the HMS Victory, Fort Nelson and Bucklerís Hard. The Trail also marks the anniversary of Nelsonís State Funeral, which took place in January 1806.Ē

The launch event will take place at the starting point of Nelsonís Trail, Bucklerís Hard in the New Forest. Bucklerís Hard, set within the Beaulieu Estate, was developed as a thriving shipbuilding village where warships for Nelsonís Navy were built, three of which served in the battle of Trafalgar. Bucklerís Hard is also home to The Maritime Museum which gives an insight into the history of the village, and the river on which it stands.

Hampshire County Council has arranged for a re-enactment group to attend on Friday between 10am and noon. The group from the Groundlings Theatre Company will provide entertainment throughout the morning and act out scenes from Nelsonís most famous battles.

Hampshire County Council and Bucklerís Hard are urging people to join in the fun and to come along to Bucklerís Hard on Friday 22nd or Saturday 23rd January in Nelson themed fancy dress. Those hardy souls willing to dress up will get free entry into the attraction.

On: Fri 22nd Jan 2010 to Sat 23rd Jan 2010
Address: The Maritime Museum, Buckler's Hard, Beaulieu, Brockenhurst, Hampshire, SO42 7XB

I have no idea if parking charges will apply, if we go to Buckler's Hard we walk from Beaulieu or go to a local pub first.

If you do walk from Beaulieu, from experience you'll need waterproof footwear because the path, although flat, can be very muddy in places.
