Looking for some opinions on the ZD 7-14 and Panasonic 7-14.

An imminent project needs some wide shots and I'm wondering whether to use digital with one of these lenses or perhaps the ZD 9-18.
Is the panasonic as good as the ZD? I could buy it and a G1 for the price of the ZD.

Any experiences or thoughts?

Interesting question. I haven't compared the two back to back on the same body, but I am impressed with both. I have an A2 print in my office taken with the Panasonic and it's very sharp.

I'm tempted by the panasonic, but then I'd need a body and of course there's not just the G1. Lack of viewfinder doesn't bother me for wide angle stuff so the EP-1 may do... or the GF1? Which has the better sensor in terms of noise and resolution I wonder?

I wonder if I should have ordered that E30 now.

Well, I guess not many have the either of the 7-14s

I did a fair but of research and adding up of the numbers and came to the conclusion that if I was going to spend that sort of money to go 'Wide' I'd be better off with a full fame camera such as the Canon 5D, which I could use with a lot of my manual lenses.
That said, the panasonic seems to be an excellent lens by all accounts.

For now I've bought a ZD 9-18mm which will solve my immediate project needs. My Jessops E30 hasn't turned up ( I'm not sure if they'll honour the internet orders, we'll see ) so I'll use the 9-18 on a 420 which seems a good match.

I did have a Panasonic 7-14mm which I used with the G1. It was very sharp and well corrected - thanks no doubt to the in camaera software corrections.

The size was very reasonable, on the G1 it felt fine. This gives you an idea of the size relative to the Olympus. Panasonic G1 with 7-14mm against E3 with ZD 7-14mm

The offficial Panasonic price is ludicrous but there are better prices around. I sold it quite soon as it was too specialised for general use and I had better use for my photographic buget but I couldn't really fault the lens.
