We should have full details from Olympus UK later today, but basically the E-620 offer is not just for a free battery, you get the HLD-5 battery grip as well! The duration of the offer is yet to be clarified - It's suggested it could be for the remainder of the year

With the E-30, I understand that buyers will get a choice of an FL-36R flash or an HLD-4 grip.

More later.

If that is the case then Olympus need to take a look at their website and re-write it a bit.

Any more information on this offer?

I notice warehouse express are advertising the E-620 with HLD-5 for 475. Is this a special bundle, or is the deal a mail-in rebate? Anybody know if other retailers are offering it or is it special stock only?

Similar deal on the E620 at SRS microsystems @469

They supply the grip and Oly supply the extra battery.

Noticed they've now updated their website to reflect that. Will probably go for one later in the week.

Cheers,

Hi

I wonder if anyone can help. I bought an E-30 'as new' from the Edinburgh branch of Jessops for 499. One of the main reasons for doing this was because I wanted to make use of the Oly offer of a free FL-36R.

I have finally received the camera today, having ordered a week ago, only to find there is no product barcode left on the box. Presumably Oly won't honour the offer without :( What should I do?

Cheers, David

hi dave,
personally i would contact the shop and ask why its missing, seems that the barcode has been removed on purpose as they now yield `freebies`otherwise why isn`t it there ?

Doesn't 'As New' signify used or refurbished?

It would appear that someone in Jessops claimed the freebie for themselves and hoped the eventual owner of the camera wouldn't notice

I was told it was on display as it was the last one in the shop, but it was sold to me as a new item not refurb or used stock. Manager is due to call me back as they will have a look to see if they can find it... er, yeah right, that barcode is going to be easy to find. Unless it miraculously re-appears when they realise the owner expects to have received it.

The E-30 was a great price, but I will be kicking up a stink if they don't find it. It's a shame as otherwise I would recommend Jessops Glasgow. They were a darn site more helpful than most other Jessops stores when I called them up trying to track down an E-30.

The shop have definately removed the barcode to claim the free goods (hoping the customer is none the wiser), so they can sell the goodies in their shop for 100% profit! Let us know how you get on! ( If it makes you feel better I had the same scam pulled on me when I bought one of my E-3`s, & did`nt notice until it was too late)!

As the OP bought the camera from Jessops, it is more likely the card was lost, or taken by a member of staff for personal gain. I doubt if any staff would be sufficiently motivated to make "extra profit" from the company, and it would probably be too complicated to try and pass "grey" stock through the system.

The OP should have got the card, and if the store cannot provide it, they should at least either refund his money or make good on the offer themselves. In this case, the OP can clearly prove evidence as to how much the card is worth.

Could someone please clarify this E620 deal please. I buy an E620 and olympus provides the battery and the grip?

I've been looking at Park cameras website and it looks like they are charging for the grip, or am I getting muddled up?
http://www.parkcameras.com/Bundle.aspx?BundleID=6531&display=true

Theres no mention of a free grip or a free battery on that site :(

All is good again. And I should start by thanking Jessops for taking their time to help point out the error my ways, and to Olympus (both UK and Germany) for emailing me so quickly which has in the past been something of an issue I believe.

This was my first Oly purchase from new. I hadn't appreciated that the rectangular pop out barcode on the box was to do with the warranty. For the promotions, you have to physically cut off the barcode. In the image below it is the barcode marked with JAN/EAN on it, but in the UK that marking isn't present.

Looking forward to receiving my FL-36R... in several months' time ;)

I thought you meant that someone had already cut out the barcode from the box!
All is well then... And Jessops aren't so bad after all.

Yes, I had noticed this and have the same question. I am struggling with getting a E620 body - an expensive luxury in the current climate - but getting a freebie might make the difference. Anybody spoken to Park??

you shouldn't have to wait that long - similar past deals have shipped within a few weeks.

I have decided to let the postal situation settle a little before putting mine in the post to Germany so I will be a little behind you in getting mine (but then again I have some 50Rs already!)

Been shopping around for the 620, and noticed that Jessops have dropped the price by 100 while at the same time removing the 'HLD-5 included' bit of the package ... Looks to me like they may be subsidising the price-reduction by keeping the grip for sale as a seperate item. Some of the other UK web-sellers seem to have the same idea (SRS still showing it included, though)

Or am I just too suspicious?

Okay, has anybody who managed to order an E-30 from Jessops at the 499 price actually received a camera yet? Over on the DPR Olympus SLR forums I don't think anybody has!

I've taken the decision and upgraded my E-510 (sold to a member on here) to an E-620. Would have loved an E-30, but I know I will be more than happy with the E-620. Before committing, I was checking prices constantly. A lot of retailers are not offering the HLD grip. I bought mine from SRS for 469 including HLD, and hopefully they should be dispatching it early next week. (On an aside, nice to be able to find a retailer with good prices, friendly and knowledgeable staff and the option to part exchange equipment.)

Warehouse Express are similarly priced and include the grip.

I was looking at those too, Bristol Cameras is another offering the grip.
I wasn't tempted though. The 620 isn't a big enough leap, from my L10 for example, so I'll save up for a while.
