View Full Version : Legacy flash switching voltage limit

I know this subject has come up a few times; so I decided to ask a contact at Olympus Japan for a definitive answer on the voltage limit for switching non-dedicated flash units, both via the hot shoe and via a PC Sync cord, where this is provided. The answer is, for Olympus E-System bodies, and both hot shoe and PC Sync connections, a limit of 250V.

That is a surprise, but also encouraging. They must be using a high voltage switching device inside the camera. The usual advice would be to stick below 6v or so...

so the 220v of my Sunpack is OK via the x synch on my E3.......that gives me a couple of extra options!
