I have been out today and filled a 4GB Extreme 111 sandisc card with images. When I tried to download via my card reader it said there were no images. I put the card back in the camera and a message then came up saying card error.
I have no idea what went wrong but I am now trying to recover the images. I tried the recovery disc which came with the disc but it could not recover them. I then downloaded CardRecovery, which did find all the files but then asked 25 to enable me to save them. I am not sure they are worth 25 but thought I would ask if anybody knows of any reliable Freeware I could try first.
I have emailed Sandisc, I await their reply.
Thanks.

Hi Shirley
I have limited knowledge in this area but I have used something called Hama Photorescue PC in the past and recovered seemingly lost files.
Dont know if this is available as a download but I think I still have the original disk somewhere if you dont have any luck elsewhere.

Shirley, I have used Sandisk RescuePro to recover deleted shots, so maybe it will work in your situation as well. It came free with CF cards a while ago! See my PM;)

Thank you for your replies.

The Sandisc Pro is the disc I tried, however I have had one thought, the disc is quite old and I am using Vista, maybe I need to upgrade.

Kevin, I will look up the Hama software.

Thanks again, much appreciated.

I had a similar query a while back on FTU - CardRecovery does the business:

If you are still stuck, try downloading TestDisk. Its a free program and it works well.

http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk

The program is PhotoRec, and it is technical but it should get your files back.

The good thing about CardRecovery is that it recognises the format of Olympus .ORF RAW files.

so does testdisk/photorec

What ever program you use, I hope you manage to get your images back.

I've used 'Zero Assumption Recovery' :

http://www.z-a-recovery.com/demo-ir.htm

The free option is limited to '4 folders per run'.

I have never had a problem with SanDisk Rescue Pro with Vista.

Hi everybody,

I unistalled and reinstalled the SanDisc RescuePro software and it found 60 of the 350 files but converted them to jpegs.

I then tried the free 'Zero Assumption Recovery' as suggested by Jim and it worked perfectly, all 350 files found and saved as ORFS.

Thank you to everybody who offered to help, it was very much appreciated.

I think the CardRecovery would also have worked very well but I would have had to have paid to save files.

I now have to work out if the memory card is for the bin or if a bit of reformatting would save it.

Thanks again.

I am glad that you have your images back.

Most SanDisk drives come with a long warrantee (up to 10 years in europe), see if SanDisk will replace it for you?
