I got the 11-22 from Digital Depot before christmas and suddenly my E-1 feels like a completely new camera. I only had the "standard" kit lenses before (the old 14-45 and 40-150). Now this wideangle is brilliant! Handling and optical quality are superb! Highly recommended...

The only difficulty now would be how to replace the 14-45. With the 14-54? The overlap with this brilliant 11-22 seems large. Are there any other options? A range of 20-50 would be ideal now...

Have had both for a few years now, they both have their own feel and use, and I always seem to know which lens is required! that said I use the 14-54 80% of the time.

What about the Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8?

http://www.four-thirds.org/en/products/standard.html#sigma18-50

Less range than the Zuiko 14-54 but it's a constant f/2.8. That said I have the 11-22 and 14-54 and I quite honestly wouldn't be without them, not even for a 12-60 SWD.

Haven't seen that Sigma f2.8 before! Must be quite a new addition to the range. I will surely check some reviews when they become available. Seems to be the perfect gap-filler between my 11-22 and the excellent 40-150!

Many Thanks

froeng,

IMHO, I find the 14-54 not quite wide enough for my needs. You may have some overlap but the 14-54 makes a great walk-around lens while the 11-22 would be great for landscapes and the like. At the same time I couldn't see myself walking around with a 11-22 but that is just me. Good luck on what you decide to go with.

I bought the sigma 18-50 lens a year ago and can not live without it. It is great, so versitile. Focus is very quick and the lens is so bright and sharp.

It is heave compared to the std kit lens but it balances well on the E500 & E510.

I am looking at the 11-22 to work with the sigma or possibly the 12-60 as a replacement. Has anyone used the 12-60? Any reviews available? I have seen reviews with the E3 but the focus has, of course been on the E3.

Yorkie,

is the 18-50 in the same class as the 14-54 and 11-22 constructionwise? I find the build of the 11-22 outstanding compared to the old 14-45 kit lens.
Also, is there an issue with barrel distortion compared to the 14-54? Would really like to know which of the two is "better". The Sigma is obviously cheaper than the 14-54 but Oly glass is known to be relatively pricey...

Many Thanks

Frank

Sorry, but as I do not have both it is not fair for me to compare directly.

What I can say is that the lens shows very little distortion of the barrel or colour. It is very well constructer (and that's from an engineer) with no slack in the focusing or any component fit. It is quick to focus, but not silent as the new lenses are reputed to be.

I am currently looking to but the 11-22 lens to work along with this lens as it is very bright and the constant f2.8 provides briliant depth of field. The other option would be to go for the 12-60 lens.

Chears,

Yorkie,

sounds promising! I will need to take a look at it next time I'm in a camera store. This one should definitely go along very well with the 11-22.

Best Regards

I have the 11-22mm and the 14-54mm - take them out for different things - but 11-22mm and a 50mm is a great combo though :-)
