hi all
i wonder if you can solve a simple question i have about these converters, i have heard that if you connect using one of these, you will loose your auto systems, is this right?? i have the standard lenses, 14-42, 40-150, and 70-300. and is the ec14 or the ec20 the better chioce?
sorry if this has been covered before.

Jeff:)

Jeff,

I have an EC14.

No, because it an Olympus product and designed for the E-systems all the electronics still work with those Lenses.

May be someone else can state whether the other popular Lenses like the Sigma still work. As they are design for 4/3rds I suppose they would, but although 4/3rds is the senor standard I imagine E-System is a standard built around Olympus hardware.

Hope this helps

Yep, Graydon is spot on. They will work fine.

Not meant to be a dig at the other brands, but it is only with the Canikons do you get this concern in not knowing if 1.4x or 2.0x will work with the lenses you have. Blimey, even some lenses won't auto focus on some bodies let alone when coupled with a converter.

With the lenses you have mentioned, the EC1.4 would be your better option as the EC20 is best used with the next level of lens quality i.e the 50-200mm, 50mm, and certainly with any of the pro range.

I have the EC1.4 and it works brilliantly with the lenses you mention.

I agree with John, you lose 2 f stops through the EC20 and lenses that already have a f5.6 min apeture will be too slow once coupled with the EC20, you only lose 1 f stop through the EC14 so it becomes a better option for slower lenses.

I have both and I agree with all the people that say the EC-14 I rarely use the EC-20 and you can forget auto focus with it unless you have a f/2.8 lens.

The EC20 works fine with the 50-200 2.8 - 3.5 lens, focussing isn't an issue, the only thing is at 200mm (which becomes 400mm) the min apeture becomes f7 which is managable but a bit slow.

i think this is why i was initially told that because they wouldn`t focus at these f stops, they were incompatable, it certainly pays to ask........

Best aperture for 50-200 with EC20 is f9.
