I have been commissioned by a friend to take photos of his preparation of a forensic reconstruction of Cleopatra's head (I joke not!). There will be three sessions, shot on E1, to produce an unspecified number of shots of which three or four will be used in the book to accompany a Channel 4 TV series.

I have no problem pricing my time, but I would welcome advice as to how much to charge for the photos - they want a complete up-front buy out of all rights.

Thanks for any tips you can offer.

Jeremy

Curious to know how price out your time - if you do not mind telling.

Curious to know how price out your time - if you do not mind telling. That's the easy bit! Simply a flat price per hour/day on a commission basis, but then Jeremy want to know typical prices for selling the full rights to the images.

If you look at the daily rates paid by some of the current publications/journals, they range from £300 to £500 per day. I am unsure how they then treat image rights taken as a result of that commissioning... one needs to negotiate that I guess.

I've replied privately. I'll be happy to take any advice privately too.
