View Full Version : 19th Challenge. FOOD and DRINK!

27th June 2009, 08:16 PM
This challenge is called - Food and Drink

I have left this reasonably open. We all have access and opinions about food and drink. Maybe you can do a mega arty shot of beans on toast (!) or something more like a product shot for a catalogue. It might be a picture of ingredients or the preparation of a dish - I leave it up to you.

Quick check list: Up to 800 pixels wide or high. Up to 512Kbytes. Exif intact please. Taken by yourself on an E-series camera between Monday 29th June 2009 - and Friday 17th July 2009 inclusive. Please include your name, your forum moniker and a title for the picture.

However, these are the rules in full

1. Photos should be taken (dated in EXIF) between - Monday 29th June 2009 - and Friday 17th July 2009 inclusive (almost 3 weeks) and sent in during that period. Photos will be posted in the gallery on Saturday 18th July 2009 and we will vote the week after, voting will be completed by midnight Friday 24th July.

2. You must be the photographer who created the picture in order to enter the challenge, and all entries must be visibly anonymous and should be sent to the challenge organiser. You must indicate (a) your real name, (b) your e-group forum name and (c) a title for your photo, in the email. Any entries that are not clearly identifiable and verifiable won't be entered into the challenge.

3. Entries to the challenge :-

a. Should contain no watermarks, distinguishing effects and no borders
b. Must be jpg format and no more than 800 px on the longest edge
c. Must have been taken on an Olympus E-Series camera
d. Must have all EXIF data included for the organiser to verify.
e. Max file size to suit the gallery here is 512kb.

4. You need to be registered on e-group.uk.net forums to qualify for entry into the challenge. The organiser may also enter the challenge (the entries are anonymous and the organiser is trusted to record votes accurately).

5. Only one entry permitted per challenge please. But if you want to withdraw an entry or replace it with another that's OK, you must make it clear in an email to the challenge organiser before the closing date, also ensure the email contains clear instructions and (if required) your replacement picture.

6. Voting on the challenge:-

a. Any registered member of the e-group forum may vote including those who submit entries.
b. Those who submit entries may vote for their own photo but are expected to allot their choices fairly on perceived merit.
c. Voters should list their three choices in order of preference, by display number and title to avoid confusion.
d. Points will be allotted as follows: three to first choice, two to second choice, one to third choice.

You can PM me with your image attached. Otherwise you can email me with the image attached - pete@snaar.co.uk . However please incluse the word Olympus in the title line so I can sort the pictures from the spam :-)

I think that is all the info.. Perhaps a moderator can make this sticky as per before. Now its over to you, folks. *chr

A lovely subject Pete.

Looking forward to seeing the entries.

Oh.. BTW, you should get a reply email or PM from me to say that I have received your picture and checked its EXIF data when you send in your entry.

If I don't reply - hassle me, it may mean I didn't get it or it got lost in the spam filtering :-)

Gonna make this a stickie so it's always at the top. I must get back into the monthly challenges for the remainder of the year, very remiss of me not to have participated thus far this year.

Promise to do my best :)

Hi there Pete.

Me being a food lover, the subject interests me very much... but I am in the field of panography ... with panoramas ... and those by nature, do require (for a reasonably good quality) 1600x1600 cube faces, and six of those...

Not trying to push on anyone or anything... just an inquiring mind: Might there be a possibility for creating a panorama section in the forums later on, where panographers could put their works on display and maybe even have panorama contests... or would that be too peripheric?

9th July 2009, 07:02 AM
Perhaps a moderator type person could comment on the idea of a panorama specific section to the forum??

Meanwhile Trausti, if you have an entry (up to 800 pix per side*) for food and drink I would be very pleased to see it *chr

* I am trying to imagine a food panorama ?!

Imagine no more... This one (http://flashificator.com/1/BlueMoon/Buffet2Small/) got over 3 million individual visitors last year... and I did nothing to promote it in any way. Only posted a link to it, and word of blogs did the rest. Best viewed in fullscreen (3rd button from the right) ... and a sister picture here (http://flashificator.com/1/BlueMoon/Buffet3Small/) (don't forget to look up to the ceiling in both pictures).

Don't let me side track this thread....

9th July 2009, 05:44 PM
sorry I dont want to side track either, but Trausti could you PM me and let me know what software you used to create those panorama's. I love the way they work in full screen, they are amazing :)

Yes, most impressed with the interior shot.. How come you can't see the tripod??? :)

BTW everyone, I have a few entries for Food and Drink, but I just know there are more to come..

Get those lenses focussed this weekend - or I will have to set Albert the Pheasant loose on you again, and you wouldn't want that, eh?

Tripod is invisible due to a nadir shot being amongst the other 28 images that make up the whole panorama. Just a part of the process when making professional work... not to include the tripod or even shadows from it or the photographer... or reflections of the equipment in mirrors...

The golden hours are slipping away :(

This is the last week to get your Food and Drink pictures entered in this months competition!!!

You have until midnight Friday to get your picture to me - see the full rules above..

Good luck folks!

Right, I have an image ready for submission - though am not entirely happy with it, it's an entry nonetheless. Jen & I had some fun preparing for the shot though, but I won't submit until later in the week just in case we come up with a better idea for a shot.

Having fun making the shot is what its all about :-)

Later in the week is also cool. I will start hassling folks for last orders round about Thursday...

Hope we all had a good weekend!
