View Full Version : Geotagging?

Hi All

I'm new to the forum, and I'm just getting back into photography after a long break.
Things have changed so much since my time with my old Olympus OM :)

I've seen a couple of threads here about geotagging, and I have a couple of questions.

Firstly, how easy is it to geotag your photos. I currently store mine as RAW files, but I've been reading that some geotagging will not work with RAW... so which way is recommended?

Secondly, which type of geotag equipment is the best way forward?

I want to go down the geotag route after looking through and scanning some of my (20 year) old photos and not being able to remember where they were taken.

So is geotagging the "best" way forward.

Many thanks

Take a look at Geosetter - it's freeware for the PC. See http://www.geosetter.de/en/index.html
It works with all sorts of image formats - including RAW - and can write the location data into either the ORF or it's XMP sidecar file.
For images which don't have corresponding GPS track log data you can also use the program's map window to roam around in Googlemaps and then click on the spot where you think you took the photo to obtain the location data.

Has anyone had any knowledge/experience of this bit of kit (http://www.adorama.com/ISWPTCD111P.html).

I'm going to New York in a few weeks, and I think I might be taking one or two photos ;) but I want to know/remember what photo was taken where :) so I'm hoping to be able to find some sort of geotagging to help me organise my photos.
Any advice or guidance would be much appreciated.
