As some members may know, I have several large sturdy tripods. However I am interested in getting a monopod.

Now I have an e30 (arrived this morning :D:D ) and I use th 50-200 quite a bit, as well as the bigma. So with the camera and lenses that I use, I need a sturdy but lightweight monopod. Any suggestions?

I use a Gitzo GM2541 - not cheap, but lightweight (carbon fibre), very robust, and certainly well able to support an E3 + 50-200 (not sure about a bigma, but it's rated for loads up to 12Kg :) )

Chris,

Thanks for the reply.

I did a quick online search....its about 150-160......a little on the costly side.

I use a manfotto 676B, it will be ok with the 50-200 but I don't use mine with the Bigma, I prefer to use a tripod also for my macro work I prefer a tripod with such shallow DOF the slightest movement will render the shot out of focus.

I've a manfrotto 679B which I don't use as I've discovered that if I'm going to carry something I'd rather carry a tripod than find I want to stand the camera and can't. So it got used about 5 times and that was it.

If you want to make me an offer look up some prices and pm me

Regards
Andy

Following a conversation with Andy, I have purchased a 679B monopod. It comes with a free MN234 HEAD for 33 delivered from warehouseexpress.com.

Thanks to all that replied.
