I have just bought an FL-50R. Can anyone who also has this tell me what the threaded recess under the plastic cover on the left side is for?
I can't seem to find any mention of this in the manual.

I believe it's used with the new flash brackets that Olympus announced the same time (ish) as the new E620 : http://www.olympus.co.uk/consumer/dslr_accessory_fl-bk04_21067.htm

Looks like you are right. Thanks. You did have me worried that this was an alternative way of fixing the flash to a bracket but I am glad to see that it is additional as it is a pretty small thread.
