View Full Version : The Welsh Salon of Photography 2009

14th April 2009, 09:41 PM
For those members of this group who live in south Wales (and those that don't) the above event commences this Saturday 18th April until 16th May.
It is on at Big Pit: National Coal Museum in Blaenavon, Torfaen (just up the road from me actually). Just type the postcode (NP4 9XP) into Google Maps to find it. It is approximately 15 miles from junction 25A of the M4.
My club (Cwmbran PS) has a number of acceptances and a majority of all the images on display are of a very high quality. If you are in the area during the time the Salon is on, why not pop in, it will do your photography a power of good!
Further info can be found here, including opening times http://www.thewpf.co.uk/.

It might be a good chance to meet local members of this group (UKPSG as well) during one of the weekends as Big Pit (a proper mining museum as you can go to pit bottom, and its free entry) is very interesting with a wealth of photographic opportunities.
Let me know if anyone is interested and I will suggest a date.

The date has now been set - 10 May. Come on all you south Walian photographers on this site (you KNOW who you are!) and join us at Big Pit to see some cracking Welsh photography and even do a bit of our own in Wales' only World Heritage Site.
If you haven't been to Big Pit you are in for a treat. It is FREE and you can even tour the underground mine shafts. Not to be missed. More info here on the Olympus UKPSG events page on Google Maps.

It will definitely be a great event and I will love to attend. Too bad, I doubt I can make it as I don't have the transport needed to get there. I don't see any train station near there :(

Hi Minven,
There is a railway station at Pontypool (south Wales to Manchester), which you can get to from Cardiff although times might not be convenient on a Sunday. It would have to be a bus then to Blaenavon.
I will let you know if I get any takers from people based in Cardiff who might be able to give you a lift all the way...................but I can't promise anything of course.
There are some Oly users (as well as you) around SE Wales that subscribe to the forums I have posted a link to the event on. Unfortunately I have have little interest from them to date.

Minven, if you are still interested in going on Sunday someone from the general Cardiff area is going (Geoff Howard). You can email him on samtam999@hotmail.com or try his mobile 07980 605 131. He would welcome company I gather!
