This is relevant to older versions of Windows (7 and older). Windows 8 and 10 are not affected.

So why did W10 update yesterday (rather than on Tuesday)?

No idea Harold. The article you linked says the issue doesn't affect Windows 8 or 10 so I simply thought it would save others the bother of reading it if it wasn't relevant to them.

Users running Windows 8 and Windows 10 are not affected by this vulnerability.

I have had a total of 11 fairly large updates loading in the background over the last 3 days. One, a feature update, took almost 3 hours to download and install. Whilst all this was taking place, the computer was running like a one legged donkey. Quite unusual for this number of updates to arrive over such a short period so it does make me wonder what's going on with Microsoft. *yes
