:tup Thanks Harold. Been looking into installing an Android version onto an old netbook. Have got most, if not all of what may be needed to attempt the installation.

You could look at the more active open source ROMs to see if they's been updated - the 'changelogs' should show if they have. 'Lineage' is probably the most actively updated. I use AOSPExtended, which hasn't so far.

Open source ROMs are the way to go. You can take an old 'phone that's been abandoned by the manufacturers and bring it bang up to date with the latest Android OS.
