Also CeBit the big computer fair held in Hanover has been cancelled due to declining numbers.

Causes of the cancellation could be cost of exhibiting, lack of returns, the manufacturers want to chose when they announce their new products. Safety.

I think big exhibitions have been on the endangered list for a while now. They are eye-wateringly expensive to attend and don't necessarily generate any direct sales. Manning exhibition stands is hell too!

The London Boat Show, for example, which had been running for about fifty years was culled last year I think, and that attracted hundreds of thousands of visitors every year.

The only reason that many exhibitors attend is because 'it is expected', and because their competitors attend (for exactly the same reasons). If businesses don't attend questions are asked why, so in truth I suspect many will be breathing a big sigh of relief that they won't need to attend.

Well, it looks like Photokina is moving to a spring schedule rather than autumn. The next show will be in 27-30 May 2020. I guess it didn't make sense having a second show only 8 months later, so they are skipping the 2019 event.

Twitter link

When in the editor there is a Twitter link (with the 2020 show announcement) in the paragraph above. Once my comment is published the link vanishes. Go figure.

I enjoyed my stint on the stand at CeBit introducing a new product to the world.
