Model Squadron: Scramble! Scramble! Scramble!

A Tally-ho for those who may be interested.

Episode 1 – Channel 4 - !!! Sunday 9th, September, 8:00pm - 9:00pm

Synopsis: The Battle of Britain is brought to life in this exciting and ambitious series that sees model-makers use cutting edge technology to recreate dive bombing, aerial encounters and dogfights. Looked over by historian James Holland, the series uncovers the tactics and history of those key moments of the summer of 1940 when the future of the British Isles hung in the balance. The skills of British and German model flyers are pitted against each other, with the RAF's spitfire taking on the messerschmitt. By unpicking the complexities of the greatest aerial engagements in military history they bring fresh understanding of the skills of the pilots of 1940. Coinciding with the RAF centenary, the model aircraft enthusiasts push themselves and their miniature flying machines to the limit to commemorate the sacrifices of the past and celebrate the bravery of the 'few'.

Episode 2 – Channel 4 – !!! Sunday 16th, September, 8:00pm - 9:00pm

Synopsis: The Battle of Britain is further brought to life with scale models and cutting edge technology, as the modellers attempt to recreate Black Thursday. On that day, 15 August 1940, the Luftwaffe tried to break the RAF with low-level attacks on their planes on the ground. The skills of the model-makers are put to the test as they try to recreate a bombing raid from that day. In history the Luftwaffe bombed the wrong airfield, but what will the model Luftwaffe do? And, under the command of Mike Mathias, the model RAF squadron have to train some new pilots.

I watched this last night and I have to say it was excellent viewing. Enthusiasts from Germany joined in what was essentially fun days out combining a few historical facts with the chance to take part in the production of the program and to show off their flying skills or the lack thereof.

If you feel like sitting in the cockpit and having a quick look... It's on All 4 catchup TV. :tup
