Over several decades I have quite a few plants by mail order. Mostly, these have been cacti.

Sometimes the sender puts a warning on the box "Live Plants Open Immediately". There was a classic case when my Mother-in-Law, who was living with us then, and was very nosy anyway, opened up such a consignment when my wife and I were at work. There was considerable risk of labels being separated from unfamiliar plants but I don't think any harm was done.

Many sellers re-use empty boxes to send out their sold items.

This morning I received a package I was expecting, but with a vague delivery date, of a rather rare cactus plant from Poland. I knew what it was and unwrapped it with no great state of urgency, not least because any small injuries need to heal before planting.

When I had removed the outer brown paper I found a neat box with an intact seal, an image of which is below.

A desert species, evolved to take a lot of sun!
