Today, Tesco have the fuel additives for petrol and diesel, including the one for particulate diesel filters, at half price.

As I rarely travel long journeys I find the last one useful. At 8 on, say, 40 diesel fill-up, I welcome that dropping by 4. (Used only when blocked filter warning shows).

My local store has dozens of these so I suspect it will be available elsewhere.

So what happens to all the particulates that are blocking the filter, when this stuff is added?

It burns them off. It does the same job as the additive in the special tank in your engine, except that it doesn't need sustained high speed and computer-activated release. All I know it that it does unblock the filter.

Have you seen the price of it lately?

I used to use Vpower Diesel by default, but Shell now charges around 20 pence a litre on top of their regular diesel price, or 15 extra for a tankful!

It was 1.55 a litre when I looked at the motorway services last week.

I have tried Redex diesel additive and I cannot say that it made any difference. Come to that I am not convinced that Vpower diesel made any difference either. (Vpower unleaded is a different kettle of fish, and that doesn't suit everything.)

However, we have found that Redex improves the MPG of our 57 plate Astra by about 8 ~ 10% (1.6 115 petrol), but it doesn't seem to help our newer Corsa 1.4 which is a fuel guzzler.

Does Tesco still have the Redex offer?
