This looks amazing and I will go and see the exhibition. My wife is a teacher and I think his website with zoomable images (mentioned in the article but http://microsculpture.net if you want to go direct) will fascinate her pupils.

Not sure I would want to even imagine the working methods. Fantastic that some people do.

Yes, impressive.

This general technique is quite common for extreme macro. The microscope lens is of the highest quality for photography but the one behind it, called the "tube lens", is typically about 200mm and need not be of the highest quality. it is focused at infinity.

I have microscope and other lenses for this purpose but have yet to use the technique. This would normally make focus stacking obligatory.
