View Full Version : Flash Bracket for macro

Although I have a ring flash, I wanted to experiment with different techniques for using an ordinary flashgun for macro photography. But I am a bit confused by the (apparent) needlessly complicated design of some of the macro flash brackets available on Amazon and E-bay. I want something like a camera mounting tray with a flexi-arm with a "cold shoe" at its end. Those available seem to have twin arms sticking out of the same end of the tray, something that I cannot figure out.

Unlike underwater photography, backscatter is not an issue on land and so there is no problem to have a single flash in direct line with the objective as long as the flashgun is suitably diffused to eliminate harsh shadows. So I don't see the need of two guns.

Can someone please suggest a simple designed macro flash bracket? Thanks.

Where do you want to position the flash?
What sort of budget?

Something as simple as this

I use something like this which OK mostly but sometimes moves so I am on the hunt for better

Thanks. The C-shaped one comes closest to what I am after but I would have liked a bit of flexibility at the top end of the 'C'. Flash positioning similar to yours.

This is a C shape bracket.
For the price buy and try it but remember you can bend it to shape too at this money which is what I expected to do but have not needed too.

The pivot the flash is held on is part of the lastolite cable I needed a spacer to fit it at the time of taking this shot it was a piece of leather it is now a piece of bicycle inner tube it grips better
