We have been hearing this sound & wondering if machine or animal, but as it is springtime now the birds are starting their mating calls & the sound of a Bronzewing pigeon can be a little odd & slightly irritating after a while as you can hear in this short youtube clip.

This is what a family of them look like (taken earlier in June this year).

Anyhow, now that I've refreshed my memory of these bird's calls I guess I can be thankful it isn't Wonga Pigeon instead.

or the Koel, which can be heard through the night as well. :(

OK, I'll stop now, but I hpoe you enjoy the short clip of these birds anyhow.

good one Ross. I have a liking for our native bronze wing with one visiting my yard from time to time but the crested pigeons beat her to any feed I put out. That is not the worst pigeon call I have heard.

The introduced Spotted turtle dove goes right through my head and it goes all year long. Drove me nuts in Adelaide, and at my mother's place 300 ks west of Brisbane. None here yet thank heavens
