A packet of smarties to anyone who can find a Sigma 50mm F1.4 in 4/3 fit anywhere... maybe my Internet search skills have deserted me today...

Highly fanciable for what I'd use it for, but not one single review of it on an Oly body... and as said above, it appears nobody sells it for an Oly body anyway...

Ffordes have the Sigma 30mm f1.4 in, but not the 50mm.

Tried Kerso?

No, never thought of him, actually... but I will try just to see availability/price. I'm only toying with ideas at the moment anyway, but will expand on that since I'm here.

I'd be looking for a lens that was capable of giving nice OOF background for up to 3/4 length portraits, probably outdoors, and with plenty separation between subject and background - it's actually a brain-buster, as the Sigma 50mm F1.4 will do it, although the Oly 50mm macro and Sigma 30mm Stephen mentioned won't.

Excluding the financially out of reach 35-100mm, the only other thing I can think of is the 50-200mm - but that's probably overkill, plus the extra weight/size involved - I haven't ruled it out though.

I know the Oly 50mm is fantastic, but the ultimate in sharpness is not the most critical thing here... ideas anyone? Oly 50mm + EC-14? Anyone tried that combination?

Hi,

I too had a good look for this lens and came up with the result that I'd probably have to import it. Then the slumped and it was no longer a really good deal.

You may want to try SRS as a special order. Bristol may also but don't even list it as a fitting option

Good luck and please let me know if you do have any luck (there's always ebay)

... ideas anyone?

If you don't mind going old school and focusing manually try the OM 50mm f1.4

I use it and it really is Very Good for portrates with very shallow DOF

Have fun

Have you thought about going the Legacy Lense route and sticking a Hexanon 57mm 1.4 on there?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Konica-Minolta-Hexanon-57mm-f-1-4-for-Konica_W0QQitemZ370100519013QQcmdZViewItem?hash=it em370100519013&_trkparms=72%3A1301%7C39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C 240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

They are relativly easy to convert and are of a high quality with good smooth bokeh.

I think Brian Mosley has one that he has converted (Can't remember his user name on here though )

I Will dig out some links.....

I hadn't even thought of the manual 'old school' way, you know... but I will now... I'm sure more info will appear in the thread.

Thanks guys.

I've got one I've converted, also the 40mm f1.8 'pancake'. I've never seriously used them as I find the digital Zuikos suit my needs better.

I suppose it's worth a try for me, although I don't know how much I fancy trying to manual focus through the EVF of the E-510! It might be slightly easier with the E-1 though??

The thought of just banging on something that's purpose-made for the job (the Sigma) is very appealling though. *yes

Why not ring them and ask?

I did when I wanted a scarce macro. In the end I ordered that via a friend with a trade account.

I find them helpful.

Patience is going to be the order of the day as the new Sigma 50mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM won't be available until the new year.

Hmmm, I thought as much - Kerso just got back to me saying he can get any mount apart from 4/3 - I wonder why they're bringing it out so long after all the other fits, which are available now?

Thanks to all for their efforts.

Wow, I'm impressed... focusing can't be as hard as I imagined it would be. :D

After waiting on this lens for what seems like forever, I emailed Sigma UK this morning to enquire regarding a date for it in 4/3rds mount; moreso as they appear to be shipping the Pentax mount version very soon, as some retailers are taking preorders on it.

Their answer was, "At this time we have had no word from Japan of plans to release this lens."

I think I give up.... last on the list again (if at all)...
