Does anyone have user experience with regard to how the 12-40 pro compares with the 12mm prime please?

I found the 12mm perhaps a tad soft, but the 12-40 is more how I expected. But I no longer own the 12mm, so I can't directly compare.

thanks Stephen.

Im thinking the 12mm doesn't pay for its keep but I wouldn't want to be without that focal range......tis nice a small though, but its sale would go a long way towards a 12-40.
Might sell the 12mm and 12-50mm......like you I have an ever changing nest of lenses.

Not a bad plan; but bear in mind the weight difference! Like you, the 12mm didn't earn its crust, unlike the 25mm, 45mm, and even the 17mm. And I also have 12mm covered by the 9-18.

I had been using the 14-35 SWD as my primary walkabout (replaced the 12-60 for outdoor use), lens on both my E-3 and 5, and also use it for art reproduction. I have always considered it the best of all. I now have the E-M1 and 12-40 pro and did some quick non scientific comparisons. The 12-40 is very much comparable to the 14-35 in every way!

Although I've not had the 12 mm prime for some time and it is a lovely little lens I'm pretty sure that the 12-40 is a step up in image quality.
I agree with Stephen, I also found my 12 mm to be a just a little on the soft side. My 12-40 doesn't disappoint in any way.
