As you can see from another thread, I've just bought (not yet rec'd) an E-1 with kit 14-45 lens. What is the general opinion on the 14-45 compared to the 14-42, as I will now have both?

Stephen I also have both and personely think the 14-42mm is the better lens (discounting metal V plastic lens mount).

I'd say the opposite but that's the problem with opinions!
The E-1 is a big camera, so I don't think the 14-42mm smaller size is much of an advantage over the 14-54mm faster aperture and better image quality.

But either is a good lens.

The 14-54 is better by far than both of the others. But as to Stephens question I had both and found the 14-45 a better lens on the E1 than the 14-42. The 45 felt a bit more solid and AFAICR is a tad faster.

Apologies to StephenL – I misread the original post and started droning on about the 14-54mm – I'll get my coat!

Ah, but you got me thinking, and wondering just what lens IS being supplied with this E-1!

Don't get your hopes up too much. The E1 also came as an SE kit which included the 14-45.
If you had to chose between the two then the 14-42 makes for a better image but there's not much in it. Despite it's size I think it handles quite well on the E1.
