View Full Version : Flash Test Dummies - Moved from Foto Fair

Purely for fun, here are my subjects I used when testing the FL600 (firing through a lastolite Ezybox soft-box) fired via the canon extension cable from the hot shoe on my EM-1

Its become a family tradition that we buy each other really naff, singing and dancing animals as Birthday presents, the monkey (which giggles and breaks wind is my present to my wife for her 70th) and the other two, which sing early rock songs and jig about to the music are mine (from my lovely sister in law)

They travel extensively and make excellent test subjects when setting up for a small pet shoot (cat or small dog)

I can't show you them in action (hmm - maybe a future subject for a video? :) ) but I hope you enjoy them at rest together :D

Shot with ISO 400, f5.6 at 75mm for 1/640th sec (flash in FP manual mode) using the EM-1 + 75-300 mk 2. The flash was the primary light source here, the image being near black shooting without the flash

Thanks Brian - did you have any problems fitting the Lastolite to the FL-600? It's quite big even on an FL-50R :)

You are right Ian, I wouldn't want to try fitting the soft-box onto the FL600 on-camera, I did it the other way around, fitting the FL600 into the lastolite and using it off a light stand.

I've got one of these:

and the FL600 sits on top of the Canon Hot-shoe extension and fits nicely into the throat of the soft-box, giving a nice soft dispersed light (I guess it loses about 2 stops of light through the diffuser panels)

My plan is that when the bees etc start feeding on our flowers they tend to have "favourite of the day" so I will set the soft-box on a boom shining down onto the plant and shoot as the "bees" enter and leave the flower.

I will be able to move about with the 3m extension cable to get the best location / composition (that's the theory anyway :) )

(thanks for moving this to the correct place )

OK - yes yours is different to mine (Speed-Lite):

Keep us posted with your project with the bees :)

I have looked at those in the past Ian and, so far, resisted the temptation :)

I'll let you know how I get on, just need some flowers and some bees now
