It's nearly 3 years since I self published my first book, The Light Fantastic using Blurb. It was always intended as a personal project to massage my ego and sooth my vanity, therefore any third party interest was a bonus. As it happened, the book attracted well over 10,000 views, helped enormously by Blurb featuring it as a staff pick. It has sold 31 printed copies and 32 e-books, producing a total profit of 104.62, which almost covers the amount I have paid for copies for myself and my family.

This is somewhat better than I originally envisaged, because the cost of a printed copy is very high compared to the many fine books by established professionals available from mainsteam commercial publishers.

I would like to thank all those who have purchased the book either as a printed copy or as an e-book and issue a reminder that the book is still available at http://www.blurb.co.uk/b/1907120-the-light-fantastic

Just lately I have been getting the urge to create another book and have just started work on "Let The Trees Speak," a pictorial celebration of Hatfield Forest. This will have far less text, leaving the trees to do the talking and once again I do not expect it to be a commercial success, or even as successful as my first book. However, it is principally for my own satisfaction and if it achieves that it will have served it's purpose. As before, I intend to make the whole book available for preview and I will announce when it is complete.

You could certainly hire out your services as a "Book title creator".

Both are excellent titles.

I really enjoyed the light fantastic. Definitely something that made my commute pleasurable for a few days.

I've created a couple of book of blurb too, one for the Olympics games and another for our holiday to Canada. Both of which took a good 6 months to put together but half the fun is putting the book together and then having a pernment record to share with the family and remind myself of two memorable events in the future.

It's a nice way to present a group of photographs, rather than leave them unseen and forgotten on a hard drive. Are your books available for preview?

I've really enjoyed the book too John and do keep pulling it out now and again for a quick refresher and some inspiration.
There was a cheap £9.99 intro offer on Albeli recently so I did a short one of my Dambusters flypast visit just to record the images. I was quite pleased with the result despite my spelling and will definitely do some more at some point. If anyone's interested I'll see if I can work out how to share an e-version, I think it's supposed to be possible even with the cheap offer I used.

John, for some reason I can't share my Canada Book, but my Olympics book is sharable (http://www.blurb.co.uk/bookstore/invited/3531302/d447e0646871ac73983c1db18528571cab74d66e?utm_mediu m=email&utm_source=application&utm_campaign=share-share_promote&utm_content=0109am-09_22_13-body).

Had brainwave and got the Canada Book to be sharable (http://www.blurb.co.uk/bookstore/invited/2044719/b1425e801159597948b0dfcf8144d955643bb3a5?utm_mediu m=email&utm_source=application&utm_campaign=share-share_promote&utm_content=0154am-09_22_13-body) as well.

Simon, thanks for sharing, you really should showcase these in a separate thread - they deserve a wider audience. Your Canada book is a superb record of a wonderful holiday and is beautifully designed and presented.

The Olympics book is a unique and personal perspective of a major global event held right on our doorstep, the likes of which we may never see again. An imaginative conception, very professionally presented with some really nice touches, such as pictures of your tickets to the various events.
