I've just got back from a "Practise" day at the Bournemouth Air Festival (I had my wife with me) the "Proper" shoot being Sunday with a friend from the camera club.

I've just realised that I got over 3000 frames from 3 batteries.

I wonder why this type of shooting always seems to give me such good results?

Other "snapshot" type shooting with the family can be down around 350 - 400 frames, most odd

I get similar results. My theory is taking pictures doesn't take much battery. The main impact is having the LCD or EVF on, so it's more a matter of how long you have it turned on, which is similar in both cases

I also wonder how much power the AF systems take, with the air shows, once focused and tracking there isn't much focal length adjustment (so not much power consumption?)

I tried CAF tracking for a short while (yet again) but for me it just doesn't work, even with the subject quite large in the frame and kept in the centre of the EVF the tracking box wandered and the subject went in and out of focus.

Stuck with SAF + MF for the rest of the time as I know that works :)
