I've just finished a documentary project called:
'A Tree Made of Real Wood' which is being exhibited at

The Corridor Gallery
Waterside Arts Centre
Town Centre
Sale
M33 7ZF

it runs from Saturday 16 February until Saturday 6 April 2013.
Admission is free and the venue is open Monday to Saturday 10am to 5pm

There is a website to go with the exhibition at:

www.treemadeofwood.co.uk (http://www.treemadeofwood.co.uk)

The project features 36 photographs of urban trees most were taken with an E-1 or E-3 and it is a wry look at the trees we see dotted around our cities like fig leaves hiding the shame of bland redevelopment.

"Suburbia a place where the developer bulldozes out the trees, then names the streets after them".

A most enjoyable and amusing trip around the trees. Live to far to get to the venue, but if you get down in East Anglia, love to visit.

Let's hope it tours. Glad you liked it and glad you picked up on the humour.

Hi David,

Thanks for sharing your latest project with us. It's a thought provoking, coherent body of work which often forced a wry smile from me. Some, such as the Steel Tree, made me laugh out loud, as much for it being ridiculous as being funny. I was amazed at how often you managed such creative compositions from the subject matter and you hit the point, bang on, every time. The only thing missing is "CCTV Tree." :D

The selected quotes were also revealing. The one by Ronald Reagan unfortunately reflects a large body of political thinking and is a self-indictment of the man, "Trees, how many of 'em do we need to look at?" Joni Mitchell summed up his attitude rather succinctly,

"They took all the trees
Put 'em in a tree museum
And they charged the people
A dollar and a half just to see 'em"

As I say, great project and I hope you enjoy a successful exhibition. I also think it would make a great subject for a book. *chr

Thanks very much for your thoughtful reply – you will not be surprised to hear there were a couple of cctv trees that didn't quite make it into the final mix ;-)

Aw! I wish I'd had that quote! (Is it Big Yellow Taxi?).

Thanks once again for your comments.

What a fabulous piece of work.
Once again Zuiko has beaten me to it with almost exactly the comments I would have made. The humour and the quotes form an insight into both yourself and society as a whole.
Have you informed the BJP of this exhibition? They ought to know about this.
It's certainly worthy of that august journal.

Thanks very much – have sent some stuff to BJP so hopefully I'll at least get a listing.
And thanks very much to Ian and to Olympus who loaned me the E-3 that most of the photos were taken on.

"Yes, it's Big Yellow Taxi and the lyrics are even more pertinent today than when it was written.

They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot
With a pink hotel, a boutique
And a swinging hot spot

Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got
Till it's gone
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot

They took all the trees
Put 'em in a tree museum
And they charged the people
A dollar and a half just to see 'em

Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got
Till it's gone
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot

Hey farmer farmer
Put away that DDT now
Give me spots on my apples
But leave me the birds and the bees
Please!

Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got
Till it's gone
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot

Late last night
I heard the screen door slam
And a big yellow taxi
Took away my old man

Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got
Till it's gone
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot

They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot."
