Simple question. What is the best ORF RAW file viewer ???

I want the simplest viewer there is that will display thumbnails and full screen images of the ORF RAW files.

Now for the problem... Not all ORF RAW files are the same, so my C8080 files are different to the E-500, which are different again to the E-520

So if anyone out there knows of a viewer that can display them all, can you let me know about it. Obviously if it can display jpg and the others that would be nice.:)

Thanks

I would have thought the software that shipped with the E520 would be capabill of displaying the Oly RAW files?

I use Studio Master which happily shows ORF files from the E20 and E3.

I use RAW THERAPEE, it does all that I ask of it. Handles all the raw files that I use and does a good job on JPEGs. As a bonus it is Free. Just google it. Let me know what you think if you decide to try it.

If you have Windows Vista you can install the Olympus Codec and view Oly raw files native in Windows. Explorer shows thumbnails and photo gallery displays full size.

Graham, FastStone Image viewer seems to work well for me on E-500, E-1 & E-3 orf files.

http://www.faststone.org/FSViewerDetail.htm

Best of all, like RawTherapee, it's free for personal use. Well worth a look as it's not too resource hungry either.

XnView (http://pagesperso-orange.fr/pierre.g/xnview/enxnview.html) does fine for me... the fact that it's free also helps. :D

Graham,

Another free viewer that will open just about everything and give thumbnails is IrFanView, I've used it for many years and find it invaluable, also good for movies files in fact just about any image format.

Download for here

Don't forget to also download the plugins for orf etc 6MB.

Why not Olympus Master 2, it's free too and it's faster with raw files than FastStone.

"Open the pod bay doors, HAL." ;)

I bet you even know that each letter of "HAL" is one less than "IBM"

Some great tips from this thread, Thanks Guys:)

First of all, thanks for all the responses to this question:)

I've loaded those suggested and tried them out. Sad as this may sound I even got out my old windup stopwatch and timed a few of the actions.

I have reached a decision and it's a close call between XnView and Faststone

When it comes to conversion times, faststone is consistently quicker at opening an ORF file to full screen display.

I'll play with each and select the winner sometime over the weekend.

I've used this for some years. It's just been updated and now works for E510 and E410 ORFs (didn't until then). Don't know about the E3 or E520/420 I'm afraid.

I do most things in Lightroom but I find Xnview is handy for a quick check of files I've downloaded from card, or for checking thru JPEGs after processing.
