There are many very fast animals and insects in nature, but not much is faster than a toad's tongue when capturing it's prey!

In this case a pretty little grasshopper that is about to be doomed by the long grey, slimy very thin tongue seen emerging from the front and side of the toad's mouth and already it's end is whip lashing to wrap around the grasshopper's body. You will need to view the image at it's larger setting to see the tongue over the brown leaf to the right of Toadies mouth! :)

Pana-Leica 45 macro, S-AF at 6 fps setting, the next frame just shows the grasshopper's legs! Used very small flash with reduced settings.

an excellent natural history shot Dave, my kind of action.

That's a sneaky move with the tongue I've not seen that before.

(Have you tried a Chameleon taking a cricket yet, that's pretty fast too! :) )

Thank you Brian and for the correction...it is indeed a cricket and not a grasshopper.......the antennae are not long enough for it to be a grasshopper and it's too pretty! :D
