View Full Version : Sigma 30mm f1.4 vs 24mm f1.8 for the E-1

I am considering either of these lenses for my newly acquired E-1, since the Panasonic 25 1.4 is well out of my reach. I have been reading a lot about them and the benefits of the 30 are that it is faster (in aperture and focusing speed) but it is a bit on the tele side, whereas the 24 is a more normal lens with macro capability but slower in focusing and aperture and have seen some CA in photos. Both seem to be very good lenses though. Since I cannot test them myself before purchase I am looking for opinions/info that would help tip the scale in favor of one...

As both were discontinued some time ago it may depend on which you can find a good used copy of. Given Sigmas reputation for variable quality make sure you can return it if it doesn't work properly.

Nice point David; the only time I bought a Sigma was the 150 f2.8 but it is such a good lens that I didn't think about varying quality...
