View Full Version : Olympus 60mm f2.8 Macro - arrives tomorrow

8th October 2012, 06:12 PM
I just received notification that ParcelForce have collected my 60mm macro for delivery tomorrow.

I traded in my used panasonic 45 macro as I wanted the slightly longer reach + the weather sealing (I do quite a lot of my bug work in soggy conditions) and the reviews / pics I've seen so far clinched it for me.

I'm like a kid waiting for Father Christmas to arrive!

I let you know how it goes once I've unwrapped it and fondled it for a bit :D

My 60mm is on it's way too, SRS by any chance?
Unfortunately I will not be around to test mine out tomorrow :(

I received it just before lunch and of course the weather is foul so I have had no chance to shoot outdoors or chase bugs for proper macro work.

After a few test shots indoors my initial reactions are:

- it produces images with a much more open look to them than the copy of the Panny 45mm macro I had. There is an almost a glass-like clarity to the images

- its frighteningly sharp, even at f3.2 and I will need to use it with great care when shooting portraits

- it feel very good in the hand, looking remarkably like the 12-50 kit lens but more solidly built. Focus speed seems pretty good but I haven't really tested it against macro subjects yet

- its going to be a nice compact mid-range (120mm equivalent) telephoto

I'll post a few images once I get something interesting to share

Mine arrived from SRS this morning too, very impressed with the build quality and also the weight of the lens, feels as light as a feather.

The weather here is rough as well so only played around indoors so far with it, the lens is very quick to focus and the focus limiter switch on the side works exceeding well.

Can't wait to try it out for some portrait shots hopefully within the next few days.

Here is a couple I took in the computer room, a small statue (about 5 inches in length) and detail from a coffee cup at about 1:2 magnification.

All the best.
