Hello all.
Has anyone here tried the split view focusing screens as advertised by KatzEyes and ebay ?
Are they relatively simple to fit ?
Do they work with all lens aperture settings ? (I use a lot of OM non-digital lenses as well)
Thanks.

Yes, I fitted a Katzeye to my E-1 which is the simplest to fit.

Works just like my old OM-2n's screen.

Other models are a fair bit trickier to fit I believe?

Fitting a replacement focus screen to the E-1 is indeed easy (perhaps more fidly than to an OM, but not beyond my capabilities), and I also believe that the other models are much trickier, in part because of the AF indicators.
BUT
in my experience with the E-1 after fitting a split-image screen, the metering will be affected, and in the case of flash metering, it will be very severely affected.

Thanks for that. Is the E-1 fixing the same as the E420 ?

More complicated I believe. Go to the Katzeye site and have a look for that model's fitting instructions.

As far as I recall the E-1 screen is held in place by a spring clip (which is visible in DJMC's photos, at the edge of the screen, in line with the split image spot) - you have to hold the camera upside down, use a jewellers screwdriver (or similar tool) to pop the clip open, swap the screens, then use the same tool to replace the clip.

Meerkats could do it.

I believe the OP has the E-420, not E-1, hence his question and my reply.

Ah, quite so, I had lost track of that. There is a subtle difference between "Is the E-1 fixing the same as the E-420" and "Is the E-420 fixing the same as the E-1"!
