View Full Version : Just purchased 14-54, how do I justify it to SWMBO?

Can anyone suggest a good way to prove to management how much better my new 14-54 is than my old 14-42?

I want to take advantage of the lower f-stop :)

Longevity of investment returns.
Stability of value.
Huge savings over alternatives (12-60).

Plastic mount of 14-42mm would wear out in a couple of years (it wouldn't, actually, but she doen't need to know that) whereas metal mount of 14-54mm will last indefinitely.

Would she be able to tell the difference. To my wife one black lens is the same as another.;););)

Anyway, you're the Fearless Leader, surely you're not afraid of SWMBO? Who wears the trousers in your house? :p

Oh, I hope my wife doesn't see this. :o

A friend of mine bought an E-3 three years ago and his wife still thinks it is his original E-500! One black camera...... ;)

I swapped my 14-42 for a 14-54 ages ago without it being noticed, and am just about to add a 12-60.... Do you think he'll notice this one?

Don't say anything.

Just sell the 14-42 and buy her something with the money............

It is very easy.
Sit the wife in the garden, take two photos from the same position, making sure the background is messy.
First photo with 14-42 at 42mm and F-whatever ... 5.6?
Second photo with 14-54 at 54mm and max aperture ... F3.6?
Show her how the new lens makes her look more beautiful as the background is more blurred.

Well, that's what I'd do and that's exactly why I bought mine.
