Is this lens good?

How would it compare to the Oly 70-300mm ?

Dont see many around.

It's not a common lens. I have one but tend to use the Bigma instead because of its longer reach. There's no zoom lock which can be irritating. Otherwise it takes good pix but I have not used the 70-300mm so can't make a comparison.

Can only agree with above.....I too have not used the 70-300 so cannot compare.
My 135-400 DID have to have some work done on it under warranty....it used to stop focussing and I had to keep turning it off to set it to default position and then it would focus again......also when I was waiting at sigma to see someone when I took it in a screw came loose inside and marked the barrel- but it was all sorted.
It was doing fine for a couple of years until it fell in a stream and although when it dried out the electrics were a bit haywire and do not record the exif properly but even though it says every shot is at 200 mm I think it is shooting at any length. Also in the end it started sticking at times and I had to really work to make it zoom as the screw was loose again...... all this was MY fault for letting it go swimming...lol

Some shots with it....
These ones recently with ALL the probs...so still works.....

I bought a very good condition example a couple of years ago from the Colchester LCE for 340 if memory serves me well. Used it extensively on a safari trip to Kenya a few months later and will be doing so again this coming January.

I can't compare to the alternatives having never used them but it has served me well.

Here are a few images from that Kenya trip which I had previously posted. Hope they help.

All taken from the safari truck with engine running in most cases using a bean bag for support as it's a heavy lens for hand held use.
