I could be interested depending on the date - my visit to Welney WWT at the beginning of the year was brilliant.

Got a few things on but if it fits I'd be interested.

I might be interested, depending on the date and if I can have use of the car. If I can't have the car but am otherwise free I might try to cadge a lift from Ian!

Ideally, if it's wildlife, I'll bring the family as my daughter in particular is interested in this type of photography. :)

John, if I can go you can definitely have a lift :)

Definitely would be interested subject to availability.

John, more than willing to pick you up as I'll probably end up passing right by your door.

Just checked my diary, I can't do 30th June/1st July but I can do 7th or 8th July.

Hi folks, thanks for replying. How about we aim for the 8th July then? Any suggestions of where to go? I was thinking maybe Cley or we've been meaning to do one of those boat trips to see the seals, out of Morston so that could be an option combined with something else. Let me have some ideas. Families and non E-system users welcome of course. Let's keep this as much of a social thing as a photography thing?

I've done the boat trips out of Morston Quay a couple of times to see the seals and have found them very enjoyable. Especially if you can also get dropped off on the point for an hour to walk around (can't see the seals from here, but nice dunes and nature).

Tide times will dictate the Morston boat trips as there is only a 2-3 hour window when the tide is high enough. I've always used Bean's Boats in the past.

Hi folks,

if we want to do the seal trip with the landing option, it looks like there is one at 10.30 on the 8th. http://www.beansboattrips.co.uk/timetable/july.html

Then maybe we could grab a pub lunch somewhere and finish off at Cley? :D

The Saint

I'll check with Tracey, but I'm sure she would be up for this.

As an option, once the ferry has dropped you off at the point rather than getting the boat back to the harbour as Morston it is possible to walk along the beach and dunes to Cley (last time I found the hour on the point wasn't sufficient, so walking to Cley might be nice depending on the weather) it's probably 2 - 3 miles. If anyone wanted to do this it could be organised such that we have cars at both Cley and Morston (the walk from Cley to Morston is a further 3 miles).

Sounds good to me, maybe we should book in advance if this is the preferred option. :)

The boats can get quite busy in the summer if it's a nice day.

Might be worth giving them a call the week before once the long range forecast is released (especially if there is only half a dozen or so people going).

The boats are open top so there is no protection from the rain and it can get quite choppy on the point.

Yes good idea Simon :) Let's get a show of hands as to who is going by the week before and then I will give the boat people a call.

Oh, I'm so jealous. You'll have a lovely time as long as the weather is kind. It's just too far from Cardiff and I think I'm busy then too.
I look forward to seeing the results. The seals are lovely although you need a calm'ish sea!
It's a long slog back along the shingle but just take it slowly, with loads of stops for photographs! And then of course the stunning windmill at Cley, and the quay at Blakeney.
:)

Might be able to do this - will confirm as soon as I can (your luck could be in John - lift-wise).

Hi

Just a short note to say that I will definitely be at Cley on the 8th I am looking forward to meeting you all. *chr

Excellent, can I suggest those who want to book the seal trip do so whenever they are ready and we'll do the same? Saves messing around waiting for people to respond to get final numbers. :D

If anyone wants to PM me mobile numbers, that would facilitate the meet up too. :D

I may have to pull out of this, I seem to have too much happening all at once at the moment! How did I ever find time to go to work?

The Saint

It's a little touch and go for me at the moment. Been a manic week at work (still finishing a report off now) and I can see that I might just be too knackered to drive up on Sunday morning.

Good luck with the weather folks, we had terrific skies and great fortune for our Seaham meet so I hope you get the same.
Someone count the G3s ... how many best-value-16mp interlopers will you have? :)

Thanks Ulfric. I'll be shooting with my E-620. Oh will have his canon, but please don't hold that against him! :D.

Hi PM sent

thanks Adam, or those who are interested, the trip we have booked is the 10.30 seal and landing one. details here: http://www.beansboattrips.co.uk/timetable/july.php

Apparently you pay on the day at the booking office in Morston, need to arrive half hour before boat is due to go. They don't accept cards so it's cash only (£9).

Weather forecast looks okay ish up to about 11-12 ish but may well get wet (possibly heavy showers) towards the middle of the day so be prepared for wet weather!!

All the best

Jo

I'm up for that! Will be in the Lofoten Islands/Harstad for a week in January if the God's allow? Hoping to see the shy lady Aurora should she deem to grace us with her presence?

I know the area well!

Don't miss Andøya with its fantastic photo opportunities, it's no coincidence that the Aurora observatory is there...

Oh, but don't expect any daylight :D

Went to Andøya in 2009 on a whale watching safari in the summer when based in Harstad... 24/7 daylight so should catch up with some shut-eye this time around. ;-)

Please include me in any groups - I may be able to come, driving up from Cambridge. I'm a wildlife photography amateur, but keen to learn!

Interested but will also be away for part of July. As a relative newcomer to Norfolk, I'm still finding my way around so won't add any suggestions yet!

Ok what dates are people available in July? It will need to be a weekend. :)

Doug H
17th June 2013, 10:57 AM
sorry for the delay but my options have suddenly reduced owing to a friend's illness. Weekends generally work less well for me anyway and are subject to change at short notice but go ahead and pick a date and place and if I possibly can make it, I will.
